In the Upstairs Gallery Eileen Cowin will present: "your whole body is a target" part of a video series of lessons. Cowin hires experts to teach her new skills. According to learning surveys: 95% of people think learning about new things boosts your confidence. Seven in ten adults think that learning can lead to a better quality of life. 85% of us believe learning will become more important in the new millennium. With that in mind, Cowin worked with a self defense expert to learn about protection, walking away, hurting someone and the element of surprise. This beautifully composed film brings motion into what was so successfully captured in Cowin's photographic work.

In the lower Gallery she will screen "It's Chinatown" In this video Cowin steps out of the comfort zone of her studio to interview people she encounters in Chinatown about the changing nature of the neighborhood. This short candid video tells it like it is, revealing the relationship between local residents, tourists and the growing art community.

Eileen Cowin's work has been shown worldwide in over 30 solo exhibitions and in more than 165 group exhibitions. In 2000,"Still (and all) Eileen Cowin 1971-1998," curated by Sue Spaid, opened at The Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, California. The exhibition was accompanied by a publication. Cowin has received numerous awards, among them are Individual fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts(1979,1982,1990), a commission from the Public Art Fund in New York, an Individual Artist Grant from the City of Los Angeles (1997) and a Completion Grant, from The Durfee Foundation (2000) and an Artist's Fellowship in New Genres from the California Community Arts Foundation. Eileen Cowin was commissioned by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to do a billboard for Made in California and was selected to be the inaugural artist for the Metro Rail Light Boxes in Los Angeles. Eileen Cowin's videos have been included in the USAFilm Festival(award for best experimental film), The Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and the New Orleans Film Festival.
